Tell Manitoba to make child care a priority

March 29, 2024

Honourable Brian Pallister
Premier of Manitoba
Room 204 Legislative Building
450 Broadway
Winnipeg, MB R3C OV8

Dear Premier:

On April 19, 2021, the Government of Canada made history in our nation with its budget announcement of $30 billion over the next five years towards early learning and child care.

As a resident of Manitoba, I support this transformative investment by our federal government. The time is now for an affordable, accessible, high-quality, flexible, inclusive, Canada-wide child care system.

Investing in early learning and child care will result in numerous benefits for all Manitobans:

  • Enhances economic growth – For every dollar invested in early childhood education, the broader economy receives between $1.50 and $2.80 in return. An investment into a Canada-wide child care system will undoubtedly result in increased revenue for Manitoba.
  • Improves long-term social and economic outcomes – Access to high-quality child care is critical for the future success of children and will subsequently lower poverty and crime rates in our province.
  • Increases labour force participation rate of women – This addition to the labour force will promote gender equality and lower unemployment rates.

The federal government has made child care a priority. I have made child care a priority. Please ensure Manitoba makes child care a priority. The time is now.

Thanks to child care, Manitoba works.
