Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in the day-to-day delivery and management of the childcare program providing a safe, developmentally, and culturally appropriate environment for children. The successful incumbent will have the skills and experience to play a supporting role in programming that focuses on child development, staff development and administrative processes.

Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Develop and implement a program for preschool and infant children.

2. Supervise, mentor, and provide corrective feedback to childcare staff.

3. Administrative duties such as:

  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child’s progress.
  • Maintain current, accurate and confidential children’s files.
  • Complete facility reports, ISP Grants, monthly expenses.
  • Enrollment of Families.

5. Work with outside organizations to support families.

6. Perform other related duties as required including working with the children.

7. Must have the ambition and dedication to become an Executive Director.

Eligible Candidates

Education and Experience

  • ECE III Classification
  • Current Police Records Check with Vulnerable Persons Search; and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Knowledge and previous experience as an Assistant Director or supervisor are  a definite asset.
  • Proficient in English required (additional language is an asset but not required).
  •  Experience mentoring childcare staff.
  •  Minimum of 5 years, experience as an ECE.
  •  Must be a permanent resident of Canada.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in child development theories and practices.
  •  Competent in Emergent Curriculum and Invitations to Play.
  •  Ability to provide safe and appropriate activities for children to enhance play and learning.
  • Familiarity with Manitoba Early Learning and Childcare  regulations and best practices, relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure that children are always supervised and safe.
  • Skilled in childcare program implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience working with Fastoche and completing facility    reports, are assets.
  • Confident in providing employee performance feedback.
  • Ability to provide direction and lead by example.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, parents and children.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Must enjoy working in childcare.
  • Must have a sense of humor and enjoy having fun!
