Summer Student Child Care Assistant

Position Summary

Wee Bairns Infant Centre is seeking a Summer Student Child Care Assistant to support our team in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for infants and young children. The successful candidate will work closely with childcare educators to assist with daily routines, activities, and the overall operation of the centre.

Term: July 6, 2026 – August 28, 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM 1 hour unpaid lunch break  (35 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist educators in supervising and caring for infants and young children.
  • Support the implementation of age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, sensory play, music, outdoor play, and group activities.
  • Help prepare activity materials and learning environments.
  • Assist with meal and snack times.
  • Support children during transitions, routines, and daily care activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment by assisting with sanitizing toys, equipment, and classroom materials.
  • Help set up and clean up activities throughout the day.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Follow all centre policies, health and safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist with special events and summer programming as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to engage positively with young children.

Preferred Assets

  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Previous experience working with children or volunteering in a childcare, recreation, or educational setting.
  • Interest in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

Working Conditions

  • Active work environment requiring frequent movement, bending, lifting, and participation in children's activities.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Direct interaction with infants and young children throughout the day.
