Full Description
Provide support and assist the ECE with the following:
- Must be comfortable interacting both verbally and physically with children, getting down to their level as needed.
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment to prevent and reduce injuries and illness. Ensure the indoor and outdoor areas are free of dangerous material and conditions, and handle emergencies if they occur.
- Protect the physical health of children by maintaining daily health records and administering first aid and medication.
- Address the physical needs of children such as diapering, toileting, eating and napping.
- Prepare the learning environment and set out materials that provide open ended learning opportunities.
- Advance physical and intellectual competence in children 1-6 years of age through the development of curriculum and implementation of activities which promote physical, cognitive, language and social-emotional development.
- Build Positive Self Concept by helping children experience success, acceptance and challenging demands.
- Promote positive functioning of children and adults by encouraging the development of social skills through appropriate interactions with others; and by providing positive guidance and behavior management.
- Assist with light housekeeping duties when required.
The Ideal Candidate Is
The successful candidate must have the following traits:
- Good comprehension of the English language with proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Punctual, dependable and flexible with the ability to work any shift between the hours of 7:00 am-5:30.
- Be available on short notice, on call or in-advance booking.
- Position may become a permanent "float" position
- Positive and friendly attitude.
- Reliable.
- Highly motivated to implement a play-based and emergent curriculum.
- Ability to work in a flexible environment and adapt to changes.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to apply appropriate and consistent guiding techniques and behavior management.
- The ability to maintain consistency with professionalism, policies and confidentiality.
- Enjoy working indoors AND outdoors throughout the year.
Credentials
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification Level C or willing to obtain within the first three months of employment.
- Must have CCA Classification.
- Must have taken a 40 hour approved course in childcare or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- Must be a “permanent resident” of Manitoba.
- Successful candidate must posses (within the last three months) or be willing to obtain a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Experience
- 1+ years experience working with infant and/or preschool children in a childcare centre
- Ideal for part time students, retired individuals or homemakers.
