Full Description
To provide individualized, support for a child with signs of autism, emotional regulation needs, and social and speech‑language delays to ensure safe, meaningful participation in all aspects of the childcare program.
Primary Duties:
• Implement individualized strategies that support communication, emotional regulation, and positive behavior
• Use visual supports, modelling, sensory tools, and structured routines
• Assist with transitions and provide co‑regulation during moments of dysregulation
• Support the child’s participation in routines, play, and social interactions
• Collaborate with the childcare team, family, and external professionals (SLP, behavior consultants)
• Document observations and contribute to ISP planning and review
• Promote inclusion, safety, and belonging within the group environment
• Maintain a calm, responsive presence during transitions and moments of dysregulation.
• Foster belonging, dignity, and inclusion in all aspects of the child’s day.
The Ideal Candidate Is
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience supporting children on the autism spectrum in childcare, school, or community settings.
• Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies, including sensory supports and co‑regulation.
• Experience supporting children with speech delays.
• Knowledge of child development, inclusive practice, and trauma‑informed care.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and external professionals.
•Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
• Current Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).
• Education in Early Childhood Education, Disability Studies, Psychology, or a related field is an asset.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Must be a permanent resident of Canada
- Must be classified as an ECE 11
- Must be mature, flexible, reliable and punctual.
