Full Description
In addition to Discovery's job description for Early Childhood Educator, the Inclusion Facilitator will:
- Demonstrate critical problem-solving skills in order to eliminate the barriers to inclusion.
- Model inclusive attitudes and acts as a mentor to all employees regarding the Centre's inclusion policies and procedures.
- Provide resources to assist employees and to increase their comfort level in implanting inclusive practices.
- Demonstrate and encourage reflective thinking in daily practice.
- Ensure that management are informed and updates in regard to the Centre's inclusion program.
- Ensure that activities and equipment are modified to accommodate individual needs and capabilities.
- Ensure that specialized materials and equipment are utilized appropriately for the specific needs of individual children.
- Implement and encourage innovative teaching methods and strategies to best meet individual needs and capabilities.
- Encourage positive interactions by modeling inclusive practices and strategies to best meet individual needs and capabilities.
- assists in the development of individual plans(IPs) and monitors their implementation, ensuring that identified goals are integrated into the daily program & routines (Use of Learning Trees)
- Ensure that social situations and the structure of the environment maximize the physical and social inclusion of all children's.
- Liaise with other professions by attending such meetings as developmental assessments, IP, meetings, therapies, etc.
- Ensure that records of child observations are consistently maintained and prepare written reports as needed (annually for reapplication for ISP funding)
- Assess the development of all children and initiates referrals when necessary. In collaboration with SLP.
- Facilitate open and effective communication among parents, employees, specialists and schools.
- Provide opportunities for parental involvement and support allowing parents to take an active role in decision-making regarding their child.
- Provide parents with appropriate resource material based on the needs of their family (Community resources, seminars, etc.)
- Ensure that strategies are in place to support a smooth transition to school or another program.
- Familiarize themselves with legislation, funding parameters and developments that affect services to children with additional support needs.
- Seeks various sources of funding to promote projects that meet inclusive goals.
- Keep current with inclusive practices through on-going professional development.

Is actively involved in advocacy efforts(member of the Manitoba Inclusion Child Care Committee)
- Full time permanent position Monday- Friday (37.5 hours per week)
- Must be available/flexible to work shifts that are required. (Hours of operation 6:30 am-6 pm)
- Early Childhood Educator 11 or 111 or Bachelor's level degree specializing in inclusion of children with disabilities.
- Salary starts at $27.83-$29.05

The Ideal Candidate Is
The Inclusion Facilitator will be responsible for providing high quality early learning and care for children. As well as ensuring that children with additional support needs, regardless of funding have the opportunity for meaningful involvement and equal access to the benefits of the program by coordinating the provision of development services.
This includes preparing ,directing and assessing the positive, emotional, physical, social and cognitive development of children by implementing appropriate activities and programs according to each child's individual development abilities, interests and needs.
The Inclusion Facilitator will serve as the liaison between children and parents/families as well as with other professionals involved in the child's care by sharing information and communication on any issues that may have an impact on the child.
