Term: 2-Year contract from September 2025 to June 2027 

Location:  Angus McKay Nursery School, 850 Woodvale St., Winnipeg, MB R2K 2G8

 

Hours: 

  • 26 hours weekly, including: 
    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Full Day) 9:00am - 3:30pm 
    • Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00am - 11:45am 
    • 1 hour of administrative time weekly 
  • Reports to: Executive Director

 

Job Overview: 

As a Child Care Assistant (CCA) in the Nursery School, you’ll support both Executive Directors (ED’s) by providing care, promoting development, and maintaining a safe environment for students, while also engaging in activities and assisting with daily routines. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Childcare and Supervision 

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well being of children at all times 
  • Supervise students during play and other activities 
  • Encourage self-help skills with toileting, getting their snack, dressing, and clean-up
  • Maintain a clean, organized environment 

 

Supporting Development 

  • Engage students in age-appropriate activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development 
  • Read stories, sing songs and participate in crafts and other creative activities 
  • Support children’s learning through play-based activities 
  • Observe and document children’s progress and any concerns to ED’s
  • Attend inservice days and other additional training sessions 

 

Collaboration and Communication 

  • Work closely with ED’s to implement programs and activities 
  • Communicate effectively with parents and other staff members
  • Inform parents of classroom activities via the nursery’s private Instagram account; update the hallway whiteboard 

 

Maintaining the Environment 

  • Ensure toys and materials are in good condition 
  • Perform basic cleaning duties including vacuuming, sweeping, and cleaning tables and counters  
  • Shop once a month for classroom supplies and special events
  • General knowledge/ability to troubleshoot technological issues (printer, iPad, laptop)

 

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed the 40-hour CCA course
  • Current First aid and CPR Certification 
  • Good standing with Child Abuse Registry 
  • Completion of classification application with ELCC Manitoba preferred
  • Patience, empathy, and respect for students 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures, receptive to feedback from ED’s
  • Basic knowledge of child development and early childhood education practices
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Canva, Zoom and general knowledge to troubleshoot technology

 

Compensation 

  • Competitive salary in accordance with MCCA Salary Guideline Scale
  • Three weeks paid vacation (winter break and spring break, per RETSD calendar)
  • Completion bonus upon fulfillment of contract term
