Job Summary
Reporting to the Centre Director of Norwood Nursery School, the Assistant Director plays a vital supporting role in the day-to-day operations of the centre. This position helps ensure the delivery of a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children, while also supporting staff and maintaining strong connections with families.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Director and educators to support program planning, mentor staff, and assist with administrative processes. This role combines hands-on involvement with children and staff with a strong focus on organization, communication, and program quality.
Core Responsibilities
Program Support & Delivery
- Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement high-quality, play-based programming.
- Support age-appropriate activities that nurture children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-equipped learning environment.
- Assist in designing and delivering inclusive and culturally responsive programming.
- Share program plans and updates with families and staff as needed.
Staff Support & Supervision
- Support the Director in supervising, mentoring, and encouraging educators.
- Provide day-to-day coaching and constructive feedback to staff.
- Assist with staff evaluations and identifying professional development needs.
- Help foster a collaborative, supportive team culture.
Administrative & Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families about programming, expectations, and children’s progress.
- Maintain accurate and confidential child and program records.
- Support enrollment and administrative processes as required.
- Build strong relationships with families to create an inclusive and welcoming community.
Additional Responsibilities
- Step in to support classroom activities and provide direct care for children as needed.
- Act on behalf of the Director during absences.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth centre operations.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications
- ECE II classification with a minimum of two years of supervisor/leadership experience in a licensed child care program.
- Clear and current background checks, including:
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Child Abuse Registry Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience & Knowledge
- Experience working in a licensed child care program.
- Strong understanding of child development, play-based learning, and emergent curriculum.
- Familiarity with Manitoba child care legislation and licensing standards.
- Proven ability to support and mentor staff in a leadership role.
