Position Responsibilities

As a Montessori teacher, you will:

  • Provide education and care to the children, consistent with and always promoting the Montessori Methods
  • Prepare the lessons using appropriate Montessori teaching methods
  • Develop the children as individuals and as groups within the Montessori framework
  • Ensure the safety of the children and that ratios are met at all times throughout the day
  • Ensure classroom work is prepared before beginning of the day (photocopying, and all materials needed for lessons are in the classroom)
  • Ensure that children are supervised at all times
  • Maintain the order and organization of Montessori materials and environment
  • Prepare and maintain activities for use in the classroom and change them as required
  • Ensure classrooms and shelves are tidy before and after classes
  • Maintain children’s records and progress reports of a specific group of children, including: 
    • securing input from other teachers on the children’s development;
    • writing personal (and confidential) development reports;
    • Recognize a child’s period of readiness or hesitance (i.e. learning new materials in the classroom) and plan lessons accordingly
    • facilitate scheduled bi-annual parent teacher conferences, and meet with parents as needed to provide feedback on the children’s learning progress
  • Attend and contribute at monthly staff meetings
  • Work independently as well as part of our team
  • The shift for this position is 8:30AM-1PM Mon-Fri starting August 31st, 2026

The ideal candidate is someone who is knowledgeable about Montessori philosophies and teaching methods and early childhood development. They are patient, caring, and committed to support children's growth and development using the Montessori teaching methods. They are required to have good communication with families, coworkers, and children, demonstrate professionalism, and are eager to continue learning and developing professionally. 

  • Qualified ECEII
  • Certified Montessori teacher (preschool) 
  • Employ positive behavioural support strategies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally and effectively
  • Flexible, able to adapt to an ever-changing workplace 
  • Creative, innovative, caring and nurturing 
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must display a strong level of professionalism 
  • Experiences working with preschool children
  • Legal permit to work in Canada
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Clear child abuse registry
  • Current first aid and CPR C training
